The European Union has made a contribution of €22 million to the Palestinian Authority (PA), supporting the payment of medical referrals to the East Jerusalem Hospitals Network. Italy also contributed to this payment with an additional €1 million.

Thanks to this support, East Jerusalem Hospitals, which comprises six hospitals - currently under strain due to the ongoing conflict and economic challenges linked to the war in Gaza - will be able to continue providing high standards healthcare services to Palestinian patients, including from Gaza and the West Bank.

Since 2013, the EU and its Member States have supported the PA with regular contributions to the payment of referrals to East Jerusalem hospitals, with over €213 million in total. These hospitals are an integral component of the Palestinian healthcare system, providing specialised medical services that are not available in the public hospitals.

This year's contribution falls under the €1.6 billion Multiannual and Comprehensive Programme for Palestine's Recovery and Resilience and it was increased compared to last year in view of the current difficult situation on the ground and the fallout of some donors.

Following the payment of €150 million in June, the PA has received €172 million of financial assistance in 2025.

Payments are channeled through the PEGASE Direct Financial Support, a Palestinian-European mechanism for the transparent and secure management of socio-economic aid. The Commission is setting up a Palestinian Donor Group where PEGASE will be offered to participants and donors as a safe system to channel support to the PA.
