Good afternoon, It's very good to be back in Beirut – a historic city with inspiring generosity and creativity. Europe and Lebanon share deep Mediterranean roots and a long tradition of exchange, dialogue and cooperation. We share a common goal – stability, security, and prosperity of our people.

During their joint visit to Beirut, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and President of the European Council, António Costa, met with President of the Republic of Lebanon Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

Today, the EU and Jordan are marking a key milestone in their long-standing relationship with a first-ever bilateral Summit. The EU was represented by President von der Leyen and President Costa, and Jordan by His Majesty King Abdullah II.

I want to thank you for your warm welcome here in Amman. You are a key partner for Europe in the Middle East and a cornerstone of regional stability. Therefore, there is a mutual interest to strengthen what is not only a partnership but also a friendship between Jordan and the European Union.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen. As winter sets in, Palestinians are left exposed to heavy rain and falling temperatures, without safe shelter. Children remain out of schools. Medical facilities are barely functioning, with minimal staff and equipment.

We follow closely the unfolding situation across Iran, with demonstrations reflecting the demands of many Iranians. We are concerned by the reported deaths and injuries and urge Iran's security forces to exercise maximum restraint in handling peaceful protests.
