In the margins of the 6th European Union - African Union summit on 17 and 18 February 2022, over 10,000 delegates from Europe, Africa and beyond participated in the first Africa-Europe Week, opened by President von der Leyen.

On Wednesday 16 February, DG NEAR hosted the 17th edition of the Core Group on donor coordination for recovery, resilience and development responses to the Syrian crisis. This bi-annual meeting was chaired by NEAR B Director a.i. Henrike Trautmann and NEAR B.1 Head of Unit Armelle Lidou.

Today, the Commission has adopted two new equivalence decisions certifying that COVID-19 certificates issued by Benin and Jordan are equivalent to the EU Digital COVID Certificate. As a result, the two countries will be connected to the EU's system.
