RSSAhead of President von der Leyen's State of the Union address, which will take place in Strasbourg on 14 September 2022, the Commission has released an overview of its work and achievements over the past year.

To commemorate the Europe-Wide Day of Remembrance for the victims of all totalitarian and authoritarian regimes tomorrow, President von der Leyen issued the following statement:

Our world continues to be shaken by violent conflicts and destructive natural disasters that often push local communities into humanitarian crises.

The European Union confirmed today its role as a long-standing, predictable and reliable partner of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and one of its largest donors.

Nineteen civil society organisations (CSOs) have started implementing projects to address the urgent needs among conflict-affected communities.

Commissioner Johansson is today in Kyiv for an official visit to meet with Ukrainian authorities. The aim of the visit is to help assess the needs for people fleeing the war, as well as for those going back to Ukraine.

Ahead of the Roma Holocaust Memorial Day, on 2 August, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Věra Jourová, Vice-President for Values and Transparency, and Helena Dalli, Commissioner for Equality, stated:

Dear Prime Minister Fiala, dear Petr, Prime Minister Rama, dear Edi, Prime Minister Kovachevski, dear Dimitar, What a historic moment. Today, Albania and North Macedonia are opening the accession negotiations to the European Union, and I am so glad to be here with you. This is your success.

We honour for the 27th year the memory of all victims and of all those still missing of the genocide of Srebrenica. We stand together, in grief, with their relatives and friends who survived the genocide.

As part of the regular political dialogue between the Kingdom of Morocco and the EU, the Commissioner with responsibility for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, and the Spanish Home Affairs Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, met with the Moroccan Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, in Rabat on
