Implementation dialogue on people-to-people initiatives of the partnership with the Mediterranean with Commissioner Dubravka Šuica.

Commissioner Dubravka Šuica, will host an implementation dialogue on people-to-people initiatives in the Mediterranean on 31 July.

The Implementation Dialogue will focus on the people-to-people dimension, covering initiatives of the partnership with the Mediterranean in higher education, skills and mobility, culture, sport and tourism, thus supporting youth and decent job creation.

The main questions for discussion will be as follows:

  • Lessons learnt: Looking into different initiatives and ask various stakeholders and external experts on what worked well in their respective field of expertise and what obstacles and challenges they were facing or identifying in implementing projects and activities.
  • Charting a common course: Discussing recommendations for the future under the people first pillar of the New Pact for the Mediterranean, especially for designing specific initiatives that would bring people-to-people contacts, especially among young people, to a new level.

Context

In line with the Political Guidelines of President Von der Leyen, the Commission is committed to strengthening implementation and accelerating simplification of its rules and policies by joining forces with other EU institutions, Member States and stakeholders, as presented in the Communication for A Simpler and Faster Europe.

Background

In 2021, the EU launched a New Agenda for the Mediterranean to guide the EU's policy towards the region and the multi-annual programming under the EU's Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) – Global Europe. As the European Commission prepares to launch the New Pact from the Mediterranean in Autumn, lessons learned from the implementation of the Agenda will inform the formulation of the New Pact, which will revolve around three areas emerged from the consultations with partners: 1) People first; 2) Untapping the potential of our economies; 3) Towards a common secure Mediterranean area.
