The European Commission disbursed €30 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), reinforcing its longstanding commitment to supporting essential services for Palestine refugees.

The funding will ensure the continuation of crucial services in education, health, and social protection, benefiting millions of Palestine refugees across the region. This contribution is part of the EU multiannual Comprehensive Support Programme for Palestine, aimed at fostering resilience and improving living conditions of Palestinians amid ongoing challenges. This sums up to the €52 million already disbursed in June 2025, reaching a total of €82 million committed for 2025.

This new financing is essential for UNRWA's operations, including maintaining schools, clinics, and social services that serve as a lifeline to refugee communities. As one of UNRWA’s major donors and key partners, the EU plays a pivotal role in ensuring that these critical services remain uninterrupted.

Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica said: “Children need education. People need healthcare. These are basic services that must be guaranteed for all. This funding to UNRWA’s school and medical staff will ensure continued access to healthcare for Palestinian refugees and allow children to return to school in September. We are delivering on our commitment to the Agency, which plays a vital role in supporting Palestinians across the region. The European Union remains steadfast in advocating for the rights and well-being of refugees to improve their living conditions and future prospects.”
